Kanchanaburi (River Kwai)
Kanchanaburi’s inhabitants are largely engaged in agriculture, and are mostly of Thai ancestry with notable Mon and Karen minorities. It is the site of the world famous Bridge Over The River Kwai, immortalized in books and movies, and is noted for rugged natural beauty where mountains and river valleys have inspired development of hydroelectric power and where labyrinthine dam reservoirs provide further scenic elements to the province's natural beauty.
Kanchanaburi
unfolds in progressively arresting scenic beauty in a landscape characterized
by several waterfalls, caves once inhabited by Neolithic man, national
park and tranquil reverie and reservoir settings. Opportunities abound
for bucolic living aboard rafts on dazzling rivers and reservoirs, and
provide the focal point for memorable holidays for nature lovers who delight
in natural surrounding and pleasures without sacrificing basic comforts.
We can arrange any combination of the following tours:
The Bride Over the River Kwai
International
famous, the black iron bridge was brought from Java by the Japanese supervision
by Allied prisoner of war labor as part of the “Death Railway” linking
Thailand with Burma. Still in use today, the bride was the target of frequent
Allied bombing raids during 1945, and was rebuilt after the war ended.
The curved spans of the bridge are the original sections.
Opposite
the Railway Station, about 1 kilometer from town, it contains the remains
of 6,982 war prisoners who lost their lives during the construction of
the “Death Railway”.
JEATH War Museum
JEATH stands
for Japan, England, America, Australia, Thailand and Holland. The museum
inside Wat Chai Chumphon has been constructed largely in the form of an
allied prisoner of war camp. The thatched detention hut with cramped, elevated
bamboo bunks contains photographic, pictorial and physical memorabilia
dating from the Second World War.
Prasat Muang Singh
The historical park is
located on a steep bank of the Kwai Noi River where the waterway narrows
and becomes fast flowing. The Khmer Prasat Muang Singh influenced architecture
toward this part of Thailand during the late Lopburi period some 700-800
years ago (16-18 B.E.).
About 50 meters from
the riverside of Kwai Noi, 75 kilometers away from provincial town. It
is the biggest interesting cave of the are and the stalactites and
stalagmite are so wonderful and peculiar by nature creation.
