Phang Nga Excursions
The major geographical
characteristics of Phang Nga are forest and mountains. Ao Phang Nga Marine
Park was declared a national park area on April 29, 1981. Awesome limestone
cliffs, unusual rock formations, mountains and caves are the features of
this island. There are many attractions in the area of the National Park:
Ko Panyi
Ko Panyi is
a small flat island of about 1,600 square meter. There are about 120 households
and the majority of the population earn their living from fishery, selling
souvenirs and food to tourists.
Tham Lod
This cave is located
in the marine park. Stalactites and stalagmites found in the cave are very
beautiful. A long tail boat can go through another side of the cave.
This is a large
island that forms part of a spectacular natural harbor. Though the island
is inhabited, the forests and other aspects of nature remain largely pristine.
Many difficult to find animals are in the forests; there are fine, large
freshwater pools, and perfect beaches.
Khian cave is located
on the way to Ko Panyi and there are many paintings of animals on the walls.
The Fine Arts Department has studied and found that the age of those paintings
is not less than 3,000 years and it is believed that those paintings were
made by seamen, in the ancient days, who stopped over to hide from a heavy
storm.
